Abstract

|
A case of chronic tuberculous pericarditis is reported with a brief review of the literature.
The patient was a 4-year old male and admitted to the Department of Pediatrics Holy Family Hospital, Catholic University Medical College, because of abdominal distension and a dyspnea. Although a tuberculin test was negative, the triple anti-Tb chemotherapy combined with steroid treatment was instituted and resulted in clinical improvement -during his hospitalizap*ori, The diagnosis of tuberculous pericarditis was suspected by physical examination and the x-ry y study and was confirmed indirectly by the isolation of M. tuberculosis in culture media of pleural fluid. He died about 4 months after dicharge against medical advice.
